Where Every Thread Tells a Story
In the heart of Jaipur's Choti Chaupar, in a 2,000 sq ft workshop that has stood for over 60 years, something extraordinary happens every day. Master artisans — some of whom have been perfecting their craft for decades — sit at their frames and bring fabric to life, one stitch at a time.
At CelebrationWearIndia, we believe that a wedding sherwani is more than clothing. It is a work of art, a family heirloom, and a piece of living history. This is the story of how it's made.
A Legacy Four Generations in the Making
Our journey began over six decades ago, when our founder set up a small atelier in Jaipur dedicated to creating exceptional wedding wear for grooms. What started as a single craftsman's vision has grown into a four-generation family business — but the values have never changed: uncompromising quality, authentic technique, and deep respect for the artisan's craft.
Today, we work with a close-knit community of master embroiderers, weavers, and tailors who have inherited their skills from their own parents and grandparents. Many of these artisans have been with us for years, and their expertise is irreplaceable.
The Embroidery Techniques We Use
Jaipur is renowned across India for its textile heritage, and our sherwanis draw on the finest traditions of Rajasthani craftsmanship. Here are the key embroidery styles our artisans specialise in:
Zardozi — The Emperor's Embroidery
Zardozi is one of India's oldest and most prestigious embroidery forms, with roots in the Mughal courts. Using fine gold and silver metallic threads, along with beads, sequins, and semi-precious stones, our artisans create intricate patterns that shimmer under light. A single heavily embroidered sherwani panel can take several days to complete.
Gota Patti — Rajasthan's Signature Style
Gota Patti is a distinctly Rajasthani art form that uses strips of gold or silver ribbon (called 'gota') to create bold, geometric patterns on fabric. The ribbon is folded, cut, and stitched by hand to form flowers, paisleys, and borders. It's a technique that requires both precision and creativity — and our artisans are among the finest practitioners in Jaipur.
Resham (Silk Thread) Embroidery
For grooms who prefer a lighter, more colourful look, resham embroidery uses fine silk threads in a wide palette of colours. The result is delicate, painterly, and incredibly detailed. Resham work is often used to create floral motifs, peacock designs, and intricate borders.
Chikankari — The Art of Subtlety
Originating in Lucknow, chikankari is a form of shadow embroidery done in white thread on fine fabric. It's understated, elegant, and deeply sophisticated — ideal for the modern groom who wants craftsmanship without ostentation.
From Sketch to Sherwani: The Making Process
Every sherwani we create begins with a conversation. Once we understand the groom's vision — the occasion, the colour palette, the level of embellishment — our design team creates a sketch and selects the appropriate fabric and embroidery style.
The fabric is then cut and prepared before being handed to our embroidery artisans. Depending on the complexity of the design, the embroidery phase can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. Once the embroidery is complete, the panels are assembled by our master tailors, who cut and stitch the sherwani to the groom's exact measurements.
The final piece goes through a rigorous quality check before it is carefully packaged and dispatched — or handed over in person at our Jaipur showroom.
Why Handcrafted Matters
In an age of fast fashion and machine-made garments, we remain committed to the handcrafted tradition. Here's why it matters:
- Every piece is unique. No two handcrafted sherwanis are identical. The slight variations in embroidery are not imperfections — they are the signature of a human hand.
- The quality is unmatched. Hand embroidery is denser, more durable, and more detailed than machine alternatives. It holds its beauty for decades.
- It supports a living tradition. By choosing a handcrafted sherwani, you are directly supporting the livelihoods of skilled artisans and helping to keep an ancient craft alive.
